Summary

The biggest company challenge in the history of Activy! Over 1800 active employees, thanks to a thoughtful promotion, strong competition between banks and involvement of CEOs. In one month and a half, we managed to cover over 500 000 km and the level of users satisfaction exceeded our expectations. People were inviting each other to compete, integrating on joint bicycle trips and overcoming personal goals. We also donated 21 000 PLN to a charity. The competition has definitely become part of our culture and we are already looking forward to the next edition.

"Participation in the challenge increased my physical activity and improved my mood. Also my body shape improved. I feel unsatisfied that the challenge ended so quickly. Thank you so much for the super fun. I am counting down the days until the next challenge🍀🌹😄"

Challenge purpose

In fact, we wanted to continue what we did last year. We wanted to get our employees moving, so that outside of work they could get to know each other better and relieve the stress that accompanies them every day. Bank employees hardly knew each other, so the sports challenge (with division into teams) was supposed to unite and integrate them. In addition, an important aspect of the challenge was to increase their physical activity and reduce stress. Due to the large dispersion of banking units, it was important to promote and involve the presidents of the Cooperative Banks beforehand, who additionally participated in the competition among themselves. The key was also to choose the right tool, last year thanks to RakReaton we got to know Activy and it was a hit! The app contains all the necessary elements for the competition, it’s clear and easy to use (we have a very large age spread among employees) and has integrations with other apps, which was important for the group of athletes.

“I am more confident, I proved myself that I can do something on my own. Especially since I never exercised and moved little. This app and this challenge showed that I, the fattest person in the bank, was in third place in my workplace, that I did it alone, by myself, without any support.”

Before the start

Promotion and preparation for the challenge began a few months before the start, mainly because of its dispersed structure. On the other hand, we wanted to make sure that as many people as possible will get involved :) Due to the still ongoing pandemic, we resigned from posters and we bet on intranet, where in separate tabs we posted all the news, trainers recorded videos with exercises and after the start of the challenge, employees sent their photos, hundreds of photos! Materials from Activy helped to explain the rules of the challenge and how the app works. In addition to individual rivalry, we conducted rivalry between banks (thanks to separate entry codes to the app for each bank, employees were automatically added to the appropriate team) and bank presidents. From the very start, we published the results on an ongoing basis, organized additional competitions (e.g. for team photos, road absurdities, funny names of visited places), employees also used the "Recommend to a friend" function in the app, they invited their colleagues and other banks, which was a great convenience!

During the challenge

Effective communication, well-developed rules and regulations and well-thought-out prizes contributed to the success of the action. We encouraged banks to promote the challenge, the news was spread by word of mouth, people had new topics to talk about, even more people invited others and thanks to all that, we gathered over 1800 employees in total. It was a real integration. People encouraged each other to train together, the president of one of the banks invited his employees to a bonfire on condition that everyone would come, run or cycle - as a result, the team jumped several places up in the ranking.

Our ambassadors, the vice president and one of the directors of SGB Bank, who also took part in the competition, cheered on us. The employees set themselves a goal to beat such authorities. In addition, the Ambassadors periodically sent motivational videos with important news.

In the official competition we rewarded not only the best places. The prize - a company T-shirt - was given to each person who did 200 km on a bike and 200 km running/walking. This was the only way to get the T-shirt, so the employees tried very hard to get them and there was great joy at the end of competition from people who managed to get one. The charity cause was also a big motivation, in total we donated 21,000 PLN to buy sports equipment for eight non-profit organizations. The winning teams could not only choose the charity, but also present a check, so there was even more motivation to be more active. We know that individual banks additionally rewarded their employees too.

“It may be a bit over the top, but the challenge started to make a real difference in people's lives! Thanks to the fact that the competition was not focused only on the sweepers, many employees started to do something for themselves. We received hundreds of messages and photos of happy people, who boast about their results and achievements. The confirmation that we did a good job together is that people want more and are already waiting for the next challenge!”

Results

These were intense days. Thanks to the photos, news, and results we know that hundreds of people got into the competition for good! In total, we covered over 500 000 km! Now we definitely need regeneration. From the evaluation questionnaire it seems that one of the biggest motivations to be active every day were the points for the streak and it really served its purpose. People didn't know that walking the dog could count as a daily activity. When they found out it can, they realized that in fact you can go out for a 5km walk every day and it stayed with them for good. Employees are unlikely to return to bad habits, they may not exercise as intensely, but we assume that 3-4 days a week will still be devoted to physical activity. If someone noticed the effects, he will not want to change it. Additionally, whole families were getting active, with parents encouraging their children to go on bike rides, to bike to school and do other bike activities. The Activy competition did not only have positive effects for bank employees, but also for their families.
